CALGARY – St. Thomas superstar Joe Thornton reached an NHL milestone in San Jose’s 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Thornton assisted on a pair of goals to reach 1,500 points in his NHL career. “Fortunate enough to stay healthy a lot of years so it’s very, very special.”Thornton played his minor hockey in St. Thomas before joining the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds. But a seven-season tenure in Boston led to a trade to San Jose, where his career flourished. A St. Thomas community centre was renamed in his honour in recent years.
