St. Michael's Choir School comes together for Messiah


“We are Messiahed to death in Toronto,” laughs Stephen Handrigan, director of St. Michael’s Choir School. By now it seems pretty clear that the Christmas season would be like Halloween without pumpkins in the absence of Handel’s Messiah. The choir school’s 270 students range academically from Grades 3 to 12, and they are all male because that is the sex employed by St. Michael’s Cathedral for its choir. His Massey Hall performances are part of the St. Michael’s Choir School’s annual Christmas concert, occupying the first half of a program otherwise devoted to complementary seasonal music. The St. Michael’s Choir School has anticipated the problem.
