Wigan Town were the visitors from over Billinge hill and by their own admission they had come to spoil the party. But St Helens Town were not having any of that on their big night and ran out 3-0 victors. Wigan went close in the third minute with a header over the bar from a corner. This was a special night and one that will live long in the memory for Town fans as the iconic blue Town shirts seemed to glisten under the stadium lights, adding to the atmosphere. With some exciting young talent in the squad, Town fans may even have left the stadium optimistic that there are good times ahead.
