Source: Google maps Source: Google mapsThe Sri Lankan navy on Sunday apprehended five Tamil Nadu fishermen and a boat at Neduntheevu island in Palk Strait. Earlier, on June 30, the Sri Lankan navy had damaged seven fishermen boats at the same location and warned them against entering their territorial waters. The total distance between the island and Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu is around 48 km. The island, which is also known as Delft, lies in northern Sri Lanka and has a maximum length of only 8 kilometers. At several occassions, fishermen from both the countries accidentally enter waters of the other country after which they are apprehended.
