A letter of appreciation was handed over to the Bangladesh high commissioner in Sri Lanka for Hasina. Recognising Bangladesh’s decades of knowledge and expertise in disaster management and climate change adaptation, Sirisena conveyed his country’s interest in seeking Bangladesh’s support to address the challenges in Sri Lanka. He also recalled Bangladesh’s support to Sri Lanka at the UN in difficult times. In late May, Sri Lanka was devastated by floods that claimed three hundred lives and caused significant losses to Sri Lankan economy which was already suffering from a prolonged drought. Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Riaz Hamidullah handed over a cheque of $500,000 to the Lankan president on Tuesday.
