The local body’s ban on the use of plastic carry bags below 50 microns came into effect on July 1. The squads use micrometers to check whether the carry bags being distributed in each shop are above 50 microns. “Our focus is mainly on the cost of the carry bags, which we hope will serve as a deterrent. The dealers have been asked to affix holograms on plastic carry bags above 50 microns. We have issued notices to a few shops that have been found to be still using carry bags below 50 microns.
