But today, the Spurs announced that their starting forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who is averaging 17.3 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game, had a "minor heart arrhythmia" or an episode of an abnormal heart rhythm. If Aldridge's abnormal heart rhythm resulted from his WPW, then he may had what's called supraventricular tachycardia, an abnormally fast heart rate caused by an electrical signal originating from somewhere other than the ventricles. Abnormal heart rhythms may not allow the heart to as efficiently pump blood to the rest of the body. Some abnormal heart rhythms can degenerate into even more abnormal (and thus more dangerous) rhythms and even cardiac arrest. Medications can help prevent or control abnormal heart rhythms.
