The closure caused traffic on the freeway — the main route connecting Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area — to back up for miles. Rain and thunderstorms could continue into Mother's Day on Sunday, forecasters said, before the weather clears. The weather system also spawned thunderstorms Friday in Las Vegas along with hail and strong winds in Salt Lake City. Flash-flood warnings remained in effect Saturday for the mountain areas of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, as well as the Antelope Valley on the northern edge of Los Angeles County and Central California's Cayuma Valley. The storm brought a rare sight to the San Bernardino Mountains this time of year: snow.
