Spotswood College students Kani Jackson, 13, and Jack Currie, 15, were second in the Taranaki Science Fair senior robotics competition, and Liam Hofmans, 13, and Daniel Marshall, 13, competed in the junior section. Two Spotswood College-built Sumo Bots took out the Witt Taranaki Science and Technology Fair robotics competition. The idea was to build a robot that could push the other robots out of the ring, Kani said. Three teams, which include Kani and Jack, and Daniel Marshall, 13, and Liam Hofmans, 13, had entered a national competition that uses different robots. The Witt Taranaki Science and Technology Fair came up at the same time as the other competition, so time management was a big thing, Robertson said.
