more-inAfter a marathon 50-hour exercise, the spot allotment for admission to the MBBS course drew to a close here on Friday with the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) deciding to convert 117 NRI seats to general merit category for want of students. As many as 1,088 MBBS seats were filled at the close of the spot admission on Friday evening. In the general merit category, students with ranks till 11,551 were called for counselling. When it became clear that there were no takers for the NRI seats, the CEE decided to shift those seats to the general merit category. If there was relief in some quarters as wards secured the coveted MBBS seats there was despair among some whose wards did not make it to a college.
