Sport the big winner as Timaru stimulus fund handed out

Fraser Park Community Trust chairman Brent Isbister is delighted the Timaru District Council has agreed to fund the Alpine Energy Stadium project to the tune of $905,000 from its stimulus fund. A planned $7.5 million redevelopment of Alpine Energy Stadium received the biggest handout from the Timaru District Council’s stimulus fund on Tuesday. Council established the stimulus fund to help community projects which were otherwise struggling for funding due to limited avenues in the wake of Covid-19. (File)While the Caroline Bay playground project (C-Play) received funding, Cr Allan Booth made it known he was “disappointed” at the lack of detail provided about the fundraising for the project. The unsuccessful applicants included the YMCA, South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Geraldine Summer Fete, Pleasant Point Primary School, The Catholic Parish of Opihi Trust, Aorangi Shooting Range Trust, and the Athletics South Canterbury All Weather Track Trust.
