Spoilers mar CAR peace process

This has stood in the way of peace envisaged following the inauguration of a democratically elected president, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, earlier this year. United Nations top peacekeeping official in CAR, Ambroisine Kpongo, said dialogue and other peacebuilding efforts had been initiated but peace continued to be threatened. The UN nonetheless noted despite the worrying flare-ups of armed activity, national authorities continued implementing Touadéra’s agenda, including engaging 11 out of 14 armed groups in a dialogue on reintegration. Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) is meeting the armed groups to encourage their participation. MINUSCA is supporting Touadéra’s government in the reintegration of armed groups, reform of the security sector, improvement of humanitarian conditions, inclusive economic development, reconciliation and other necessary components of peace consolidation.
