Spectrum auctions open to moderate response, no takers in the 700 MHz and 900 MHz frequencies

"Also, with high activity on the first day itself where companies used most of their eligibility points that are used for making bids, we expect the auctions to close soon. "The reserve price was surely high, and there was not much expectation from this band," an official source said. Lack of a support infrastructure in the frequency, and extremely-ambitious reserve price, were cited as major reasons for the zero-response. Telecom circles such as Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra saw aggressive bidding here.In the 800 MHz frequency, the bids moved beyond the reserve price in only the Gujarat circle. A total of 8 circles saw bidding in this frequency. In 1800 MHz, there was no bidding in the Karnataka and Orissa telecom circles.Surprisingly, the 2500 MHz band saw bids in 9 out of the 22 circles where spectrum was available.
