Special four-day traffic operation to reduce motorcycle accidents


Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana today stated that a special four-day operation has been put in place by the traffic police in order to reduce the number of motorcycle accidents. He stated that this operation would commence from today and end on the 3rd April. During this time period, the traffic police have been instructed to focus on the detection of cases of motor cyclists. It was revealed that the vehicle population in Sri Lanka is 8.3 million and 56% of it is motorcycles therefore there is an increasing tendency of motorcycle accidents. Two pedestrians, three motorcyclists and three passengers of other vehicles had died due to these accidents.
