But the speaker's office is having none of it, slamming the New York Times across social media. Speaker Johnson's Director of Media Affairs Corinne Day posted on X in response to the story. His staff has pushed back on a New York Times report suggesting he takes calls to avoid talking to the media. He also pointed out President Biden had done only two interviews and three press conferences in the same time period. Before becoming the most powerful member of the House, Johnson only had a minor leadership role.
