In total, 2017 world tourist expenditure amounted to 1.22 trillion dollars. The UN-dependent body has particularly emphasized that it is largest figure of growth in seven years, thanks to good data from Europe, especially Mediterranean area, and Africa. According to UNWTO forecasts, growth will remain at 2018, although at more moderate rates, between 4 and 5%. Globally, the number of tourists travelling in 2017 rose by seven per cent compared with the previous year. Tourist spending in Spain also set a new record in 2017, climbing 12.4% from the year before, with the 18m Britons who visited Spanish shores the biggest contingent by nationality.
