Crossing the EU border in North Africa, which surrounds Ceuta, around 5 000 people have illegally entered the small Spanish territory. This according to local authorities has been a record number of border violations in a single day, British broadcaster BBC reports. Over the past decade, Spain’s Ceuta and Melilla enclaves to the north of Marocco, have become magnets for African migrants. Spanish media have noted that Moroccan border guards did not stop the large number of people. Spain’s Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya announced that some migrants were already being sent back to Morocco, BBC reports.
