An image of a spectacular butterfly-shaped bubble of gas in the Milky Way has been captured by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) telescope. A planetary nebula is created when a star runs out of fuel to burn and blows its outer layers of gas off into space. Blue parts of the 'butterfly', located up to 6,500 light-years away, consists of oxygen gas, while the surrounding reddish tinge along the edge is hydrogen. It is located about 3300 light-years away in the constellation of Scutum (The Shield). The planetary nebula IC 1295 was revealed surrounding a dim and dying star located about 3,300 light-years away in the constellation of Scutum.
