Southland trainer enjoys special win at Wyndham races

Doug McLachlan has won 185 races in harness racing, but his latest winner, Brigadiers Son, will always be special to him. Brigadiers Son’s maiden win at Wyndham last week was significant for McLachlan because he also trained the horse’s sire, Bettor’s Brigadier, and dam, Red Electric. Bettor’s Brigadier won 10 races from McLachlan’s Myross Bush stable on the outskirts of Invercargill. Annie’s Boy raced from 1997 to 2003 and won 18 races and $189,193. His wins included an Interdominion Consolation race (Christchurch), Wyndham Cup, Ashburton Cup and Southern Supremacy Stakes Final (Invercargill).
