The Riverton Racing Club has announced there will be no jumps racing at its meeting on May 6 because of a shortage of jumpers. A shortage of jumpers has forced the Riverton Racing Club to cancel its historic race, the Great Western Steeplechase, in May. The first occasion was in 2018, when stewards called the race meeting off after two races because of track conditions. A flat race with 12 horses was better financially for clubs than a five or six-horse jumps race. “We’ll get more horses for the two [new] flat races than we would for the two jumps races.
