In March the three councils - Invercargill, Gore, and Southland - announced they would go their separate ways in regard to processing recycling, when the June 30 contract finished. Stuff understands the Invercargill council on Monday will discuss a potential 18-month contract with Southland disAbilities Enterprises [SDE] at an extraordinary meeting. The Southland District and Gore District councils voted in favour of the WasteNet's recommendation, however, the Invercargill council effectively sided with SDE by voting against the motion. A 2020/21 WasteNet Southland business plan - which was presented at a WasteNet meeting on Thursday - says public confidence in recycling was wavering.
