Ocean Shell global sales director Nina Shields holds some luxury shell veneers it produces under the brand name of Lumea. A second generation Southland business is taking its business expansion seriously due to the tourism trade being hit by Covid-19. Three years ago the Riverton business had started its luxury shell materials brand Lumea, and had now decided it was time to concentrate more on that. The company’s main customers are from the Middle East and Italy, and the Lumea brand has been focusing on selling shell veneers to them. Ocean Shell provided shells to ninety percent of manufacturers in New Zealand to make shell gift wares, according to Shields.
