Southland TheatreFest winners gun for national honoursJohn HawkinsSouthland actors Callum Fowler and Maddie Jardine scooped the top awards at the Southland/Otago TheatreFest competition. Winners at the lower South Island finals will be selected for the TheatreFest national final to be held in Invercargill on September 9 and 10. Southland TheatreFest co-ordinator Jade Gillies said the competition was important because it helped develop the region's directors and actors because they received detailed feedback from the adjudicator. Gillies said the national final of TheatreFest in Invercargill would feature workshops for people involved in the performing arts, including make-up artists and lighting technicians. The Bear was one of three performances selected by Dunedin adjudicator Jonathon Hendry to compete in the lower South Island finals on August 20.
