Southland Racing Club invests in new starting gatesNicole Johnstone/Stuff Southland Racing Club president Sean Bellew. The Southland Racing Club's new starting gates, painted in the province's colours of maroon and gold, could be used at the Invercargill Gold Cup meeting on February 17. South Australian company Simtrack, of Mt Barker, is manufacturing the 14-horse starting gates and will send personnel to Invercargill to assemble it and give training on how to operate it. The Wairio Jockey Club holds its annual race day at Ascot Park. "We've really turned up the burner to make our property a very good metropolitan track, Bellew said."
