Green Party Environment and Primary Industries spokeswoman Eugenie Sage has labelled Southland Federated Farmers ‘’irresponsible’’ after it called on farmers to boycott freshwater plan rules. Southland Federated Farmers president Geoffrey Young this week urged farmers not to get resource consent for some aspects of winter grazing as a protest against the Government’s new Essential Freshwater regulations. ’’I believe it is irresponsible for the Southland Federated Farmers to encourage people to break the rules designed to improve the health of waterways. On Wednesday, Young said Southland Federated Farmers opposed getting consent for the three aspects of winter grazing and would not until there was more practicality around it.
