The most prevalent cancers in Nahran Omar are lymphoma, kidney cancer and breast cancer. And the plan would do little for the village of Nahran Omar. No recapture plant has been proposed for the five oil wells there. Despite the pollution and illness, no one there wants the oil wells to close. When residents demonstrated against the Basra Oil Company in 2018 it was to demand more jobs for local residents.
