Residents in South Taranaki district had a zero rates increase last year and this year they will likely pay the lowest rates rise of any district in Taranaki (file photo). South Taranaki residents are facing a likely average annual rates increase of around 3.99 per cent each year over the next 10 years, the lowest in the region. The South Taranaki District Council (STDC) is likely to increase rates about 4.7 per cent this year, if all the projects in its proposed 2021-2031 long term plan are adopted. Some projects in the STDC plan include implementing an environmental and sustainability strategy, further developments of its business park, and town centre upgrades in Pātea, Waverley, Manaia, Opunake and Eltham. Stratford District Council’s current proposed rise in total rates over the next ten years is likely to average 4.67 per cent, however this would fluctuate between the years, chief executive Sven Hanne said.
