South Sudan has the world's fastest growing displaced population and more needs to be done to help them, says the director of the United Nations refugee agency. More than 4 million South Sudanese have fled their homes, nearly 2 million of whom went to neighboring countries, said U.N. and other organizations. The international community should do more to help South Sudan, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, said after visiting a camp for the displaced. After seven months of negotiations, the government agreed to lease a tract of land for internally displaced people in Bentiu. "I was hoping South Sudan wouldn't need UNHCR anymore," said Grandi.
