South Sudan Group Expresses Gratitude for Ethiopia's SupportJuly 1, 2017 - The South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC), an ecumenical body incorporating all the major Christian traditions in the country, has expressed gratitude to Ethiopia’s government, churches and its people for sheltering their South Sudanese neighbors fleeing conflict in their homeland. Machar denied trying to start a coup and fled to lead the SPLM – in opposition (SPLM-IO). As the result of this civil war, the number of people facing starvation in the youngest African nation soared to 6 million. “Ever since the current senseless civil war began in South Sudan in December 2013, we have been serving as the voice of the people, the church leaders quoted by Ghana news.
