Don’t be surprised if you find young students wearing caps, reflective jackets, blowing whistles and helping people cross roads at Marine Drive. These are the young traffic wardens appointed by the Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP). Traffic cops are also asking citizens to turn traffic wardens for at least two hours a week as a way of community service. The traffic cops believe that if the youth is made aware of traffic rules then it would help build a culture against rash driving. The traffic cops claim that this year the number of accidents has come down from 529 in 2016 to 390 accidents in 2017.
