South Korea current account surplus widens to US$6.2b

South Korea's current account surplus widened from a year earlier in March as a sharp increase in primary income helped offset a slight drop in its goods account surplus, central bank data showed today. The current account surplus came to US$6.23 billion in the month, compared with a US$5.04 billion surplus the same month last year, according to preliminary data from the Bank of Korea, Yonhap reports. South Korea has posted a current account surplus for 11 consecutive months. Its goods account surplus narrowed to US$15.34 billion from US$19.52 billion over the cited period, while its service account deficit narrowed to US$5.28 billion from US$7.18 billion. The primary income account surplus was US$3.86 billion in the January-March period, more than double US$1.52 billion over the same period a year earlier.
