South Korea Announces 1M USD Humanitarian Assistance to EthiopiaAugust 11, 2017 - The Republic of Korea announced additional one million USD to support humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia. Of the total assistance, 400,000 USD will go to the Humanitarian Action for Ethiopian Children 2017 of UNICEF and 500,000 USD to the Ethiopian Humanitarian Fund (EHF) of OCHA, the Korean embassy in Ethiopia announced. Due to this, the number of people who need humanitarian assistance in the second half of 2017 has increased to 8.5 million from 5.6 million in January. Today’s contribution is additional to the one million USD assistance provided by Korea last year for drought response in Ethiopia. According to the release, Ethiopia is the largest beneficiary of Korea’s grant aid in Africa with 127 million USD between 1991 and 2016.
