I remember taking a train from the Miami train station to New York on The Silver Meteor, and it was a travel highlight of my young life. But for many years the tracks were seldom used except for occasional freight, and the Miami station was torn down. Brightline just may become the new benchmark for travel by train in America, with express inter-city passenger rail service connecting Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, with future service to Orlando. The company is anticipating a grand opening and official launch of the train service in September. The expansive MiamiCentral station that includes elevated tracks is expected to be operational in conjunction with the introductory Miami train service.
