In a desperate public plea South Canterbury's Pink Ribbon street appeal organiser is asking for more volunteers. Breast cancer is the most common cancer New Zealand women get, with one in nine women affected by it over their lifetime, according to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Pink Ribbon South Canterbury area co-ordinator Becky Scott is short of 30 volunteers for the organisation's fundraising appeal on Friday and Saturday in Geraldine and Timaru. The Breast Cancer Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable trust which is totally dependent on donations. Anyone who wants to help can phone Scott on 021 423 257 or go to the Pink Ribbon Timaru Facebook page.
