The group is not happy with the Indian Government as protesting farmers are unable to reach common ground amid new agriculture laws. South Canterbury’s Sikh community turned out on Saturday in support of farmers fighting against the introduction of new agriculture laws in India. About 100 people gathered at Timaru's Te Aitarakihi Trust Multicultural Centre to take part in the peaceful protest to support farmers demonstrating in India’s capital city, New Delhi, according to Sikh Sangat South Canterbury spokesman Jagdeep Singh. The Indian Government and protesting farmers are unable to reach common ground in talks, with farmers saying their demonstrations against new agriculture laws will continue as will their blockades of key highways.
