South Africa's ANC loses mayors in Johannesburg and Pretoria :: WRAL.com

— South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress, has lost control of the city councils of Johannesburg and other major cities, following recent local government elections. The Democratic Alliance opposition party successfully formed coalitions and now has mayors in all three of those cities in Gauteng province, South Africa's economic hub. The DA's Mpho Phalatse has been elected mayor of Johannesburg and the opposition party's Randall Williams is the new mayor of Tshwane. The ANC is so divided by rivalries that it did not even field a mayoral candidate for Tshwane. South Africa's local government elections take place every five years and determine the composition of city councils responsible for providing essential services like water, waste removal and sanitation.
