A hero South African mother who held her toddler as she fended off armed robbers trying to break into her home has defended herself against claims she put her child in danger. Kjersti Skanke, a pre-school teacher, said the only thought in her mind was to stop the men from gaining access, as she 'feared what they would to do the children'. The mother-of-two had just said goodbye to her guests, including a pregnant woman and three young children, when the gunmen arrived at her gates at 10.40pm on Saturday. But Ms Skanke dismissed the claims, telling TimesLIVE: 'I am a pre-school teacher and a mother. Video footage shows the Ms Skanke manually closing the gate on the gunmen as one of the departing vehicles rushes back inside the property and reportedly crashes into a garage door.
