South Africa to join Morocco in use of VAR

South Africa looks set to become the second African country after Morocco to use the video assistant referee (VAR) in domestic football in 2022. Morocco, who recently hosted the CAF executive meeting, took the lead to introduce the technology to Africa last year in November. At the time, the Morocco Football Federation (FRMF) said it spent nearly US$5160 per game, which translates to US$1.3 million for an entire season. “I think it may take, this year and next year for us to be VAR-ready for implementation in South Africa,” he said. Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) believes the use of the VAR is a giant step for the African game.
