South Africa: Eskom provides backup power

South Africa: Eskom provides backup powerIn South Africa, the national power utility, Eskom, has announced that its customers in the North West Province can rest assured of continuous power supply. According to a company statement, the power utility has procured two mobile substations to provide backup power for the electricity needs of its customers in the region in the event of planned substation upgrades. These mobile substations are to be used as temporary backup power to restore electricity supply to customers during instances when substation equipment is defective, or is being repaired, the company elaborated. The electricity company said the procurement process for the two mobile substations started three years ago and culminated with their commissioning this year. In March this year, NERSA granted the power utility a 9.4% tariff increase for the 2016/17 financial year, which became effective from 1 April and applied to Eskom's direct customers.
