Table tennis player Soumyajit Ghosh, who has represented India at 2012 and 2016 Olympics, has been accused of allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl. The complainant said the Ghosh, an Arjuna Awardee, promised to marry her but then denied it. However, Ghosh has denied the charges and added that the girl was blackmailing him. I also have the documents to prove that I have borne the expenditure of medical treatment of one of her relatives at a private hospital in Kolkata,” Ghosh told Hindustan Times. Ghosh, the youngest national table tennis champion, is being charged for rape, criminal conspiracy, causing miscarriage without woman’s consent and cheating.
