Sophie White: There’s no cure for ambition, you don’t need permission to wear sleeveless tops and the other lessons I’ve learned in my 41 years

I turn 41 this week, I’ll be wiser again when I’m 50, but humour me for now on the things it has taken me an embarrassingly long time to actually bloody learnI am just about to turn the totally irrelevant age of 41 this week. My use of the descriptor “irrelevant” is not, by the way, a product of the rampant ageism that plagues our society and disregards people once they have the temerity to age. What I mean is that 41 is just a bit of a meh age. No one’s mad to find out what you’re planning on doing for a 41st birthday party. They’re just assuming rightly that you’ll be vegetating on the couch experiencing profound relief that even though it’s only 6.30pm you can take off your bra and get into pyjamas with no pressure remotely to “make something of the day”.
