The lyricist Carole Bayer Sager is trying to become philosophical, with limited success. “We have a time when we’re in our prime, and I feel I’ve had that time,” she says. In her hit-filled heyday, when “things were going and flowing and people were asking for this or that movie song, I could pretty much write something for an artist and let them know, and they were thrilled to listen and see if it worked,” says Ms. Bayer Sager, 72. But the producers have changed, the entourages have changed, and the times have changed.
