(Photo: Varuth Hirunyatheb)The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) has revised down its forecast for this year’s Songkran spending to as low as 120 billion baht, from a previous 129.6 billion baht, citing rising diesel prices. While 67% of respondents intend to travel during Songkran, the majority indicated a preference to travel within their own province. With current prices exceeding 48 baht per litre, Thanavath Phonvichai, president of the UTCC, said projected festival spending now stands at 120-125 billion baht. “People will go out and enjoy Songkran, but they will be more cautious with their spending,” he added.
