Some schools closed this morning, as freezing rain, wind warnings in effect


Strong winds are expected to develop this morning for southern and western Newfoundland, with rain and freezing rain headed to central and eastern parts of the island. Wreckhouse wind gusts of around 160 km/h are expected to start Wednesday morning, before shifting in the afternoon. (Environment Canada)Corner Brook, Port aux Basques, Burgeo-Ramea and the Bay St. George region can expected gusts around 100 km/h through the morning, as well. Moving east through the island from Deer Lake into Buchans, Environment Canada warns that freezing rain can be expected through the morning, before changing to rain around noon. A winter storm warning is also in effect for southern parts of coastal Labrador Wednesday morning.
