Both sides of the equation are growing at astounding rates, but the viability of Airbnb as a business model is taking many by surprise. Having experienced Airbnb for the first time on a recent extended trip abroad (10 nights in Airbnb properties), I wanted to know more about the business opportunities and challenges that hosts are encountering. That’s a half-world away from the geographic starting point of Airbnb, but only a mouse click away for anyone traveling down under. Now, however, hosts are making money following the Airbnb model of leveraging other people’s properties. But how did they overcome the challenge of reluctant property owners?
