Thousands of people are behind on their energy bills. Photo: Stock imageThere has been a slight fall in the number of households in arrears on their electricity bills. Figures from the energy regulator show that in January there were 315,000 households behind on their electricity bills. The amount outstanding on electricity bills has risen by almost €50 to €477, new data from the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU) shows. This would translate into a rise of €800 in annual electricity bills, and a potential rise of around €700 in standard gas rates.
