Despite this fundamental shift in how we build and maintain our software, the role of the Quality Assurance team has remained largely unchanged throughout time. An obvious question is, does a modern QA team need to care about this at all? At the Guardian, each product team is expected to have responsibility for supporting their own platform. In this post, we’d like to introduce one way in which the Guardian is trying to tackle software quality in the modern world, with the introduction of the ‘Software Engineer (Tools and Infrastructure)‘ role. Although they are embedded onto product teams, SETI’s regularly meet to share knowledge about each other’s teams; discuss problems they have faced, solutions they implemented and can identify the overlap between teams.
