A life prison sentence was imposed on Zakariye Mohamed Hussein at the High Court in Christchurch. Hussein was charged with murder after he attacked Laisa Waka just a few doors from her Sockburn home in June, as she made her way home from work. He directed comments at Hussein, the "person that took my mum", and said that he hopes he feels sorry for what he has done. He believes he will never fully come to terms with losing his mother, the "most beautiful person in my life". There are two reviews following the murder - one into Hussein’s care, the other into the secure unit at Hillmorton.
