Torontonians forgoing masks while socializing with people outside their social bubbles are increasingly getting COVID-19, helping to drive a virus resurgence that has alarmed city and health officials. Approximately one-third of recent travel-acquired cases reported travelling to other locations in Canada. In the past month, about 15 per cent of Toronto’s reported infections were people aged 19 or younger. That age group comprises only about seven per cent of total Toronto cases reported since January. “We know that many children commonly acquire COVID-19 infection from household contacts,” Dubey said.
