Social media influences politics, but not in the way you might think

There’s a big misconception out there that social media has empowered everyone to express his or her opinion. While it has that potential, the main activity on social media today is passive reading, not active writing. Most adult online Canadians read a social media platform daily (66%) and 80% do so at least once a week. By creating content that is relayed by traditional media to their audiences, Trump constantly feeds the beast of social media consumption.
